MONTENDRE

Tourist Information Link

Montendre is the nearest small town to Twin Lakes. It is less than two miles away and will cater for most of your needs during your stay. The area has it’s very own microclimate, being the second sunniest area of France after the Mediterranean.

In the town there are two main Supermarkets, Intermache and Super U, Fuel at Intermache, Car Wash, also at Intermache and a self service one opposite. There is a DIY store (Brisco) and a Garden Centre next to Intermache. In the Centre you will find the Tourist Information Centre, Pharmacie, Pizza Take Away, Fishing Tackle Shop and Hairdressers.

Montendre Market day is Thursday when all the streets have stalls down both sides. On Sunday mornings there are stalls selling vegetables, fruit and shellfish. There is a colourful evening market every Tuesday from 6pm to 11pm during the Summer months, with food stalls, local producers selling their specialities and musical entertainment.

The covered market was built in the mid 19th century and was saved from demolition in 1974 by a local referendum when the people voted to save and restore the building.

Etang de Vallet is a 10 hectare lake in the pine woods; the ideal spot for safe swimming, sunbathing, sailing, fishing, canoeing, walking or simply for observing wildlife. Nature walks are organised by the Tourist Office.

Each year in March there is a Wine and Food exhibition.

Horse Riding stables for both novice and experienced riders are near Montendre. There are two riding stables, and many bridle paths in the area.

Montendre and it’s surroundings boast a rich network of walking, cycling and bridle trails. There are more than 15 marked circuits to choose from. Ask for ‘topoguides’ or Trail Maps at the Tourist Office
